Ravichandran Ashwin on KXIP’s win against DD
Ravichandran Ashwin would be a content man(rather relived) after Kings XI’s first win of the campaign here at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.
Having changed franchises and given the leadership role immediately, Ashwin would have felt the jitters stepping out into the sun for the toss. And Ashwin admitted to being a little relieved, having gotten the monkey of the back with a win in his first game as Kings XI captain.
The win came thanks to a disciplined bowling effort on part of the Kings XI bowlers, followed by a scintillating innings from KL Rahul, bringing up his 50 in 14 balls and essentially knocking Delhi out of the contest.
Ashwin also provided insight into how he used his spinners not necessarily bringing them in with respect to the type of batsman(left-handed or right-handed).
“There is lesser pressure now. I had a bit of nerves going in for the toss. Feeling a bit relieved now. I had some elaborate plans going in the practice games. KL Rahul and the other guys helped me execute them. It doesn’t matter if it’s a left-arm spinner to a left-hander or a right-arm spinner for a right hander. I think it’s just the perception that one has and I would like to think my best bowlers are the best bowlers and if they get hit, so be it, we will try and chase it down. That’s the thought process. I wanted a lot of guys to have a good hit and we batted well today.” Ashwin said.
KXIP would be hoping to build on this win and get that winning momentum early on in the tournament.
