MI have decided to retain captain, Rohit Sharma, hard-hitting all-rounder Hardik Pandya, and lead bowler Jasprit Bumrah, announcing their retentions through their Twitter account.
Rohit Sharma captained Mumbai Indians in a 1-run win in the IPL 2017 final against Rising Pune Supergiant, to win the franchises’ third IPL trophy.
In recent times, Rohit Sharma has been in spectacular form. The 30-year-old smashed the joint-fastest hundred in T20Is when he scored a ton off just 35 balls against Sri Lanka in Indore.
The hard-hitting opener was part of Deccan Chargers’ IPL-winning squad in 2009, before he joined the Mumbai Indians. Since then, Rohit has not looked back, becoming one of the most important cogs for Mumbai Indians.
Rohit Sharma had low times during his captaincy tenure with the Mumbai Indians, as the squad were winless in the first six games of IPL 2015. However, MI made a brilliant comeback in the tournament, and went on to win the tournament.
“Skipper Rohit Sharma is an automatic retention having led the team to three IPL titles. Hardik Pandya is one of the big match-winners and the interesting third retention would be Krunal Pandya,” a BCCI official spoke to PTI on Monday.
Nevertheless, the decision was officially announced by the franchise later in the evening, confirming all the rumors circulating in the media.
Captain Hitman has revealed that he was ecstatic to be the captain of the franchise, which made him what he is today. He also held the fans involvement in the game in high esteem, which makes Mumbai Indians one of the most exciting teams to watch in the IPL.
Check out his tweet:
Excited to be part of this wonderful franchise again. This team is what it is today because of its wonderful fans, people who work hard behind the scenes and it’s passionate owners. Along with @Jaspritbumrah93 and @hardikpandya7 I look forward to the season ahead @mipaltan 😊
