Over the course of the last year, the one thing which has made for heartening viewing from the land of cricket is the massive expansion process the sport has been undergoing. From new T20 leagues sprouting up to different countries and regions being involved in the sport, cricket is today been played by and in countries where the game was previously an unknown entity.
And one such latest entrant into the global cricketing arena is the European Cricket League T10 which begins today, featuring six teams from three European countries. Divided into two groups of three , the showpiece league sees the teams featuring the domestic champions of six countries who’ll be squaring off against each other over the course of 17 matches for a shot at being called the Kings Of Europe.
With participants from Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania, Russia and Spain, beginning proceedings in the league today will be V.O.C Rotterdam and Dreux Cricket Club with the two Group A sides set to square off against each other in the opening match. The match will revolve around the T10 format with both the sides playing 10 overs each in their innings in what is the first of a slew of matches headed our way on opening day.
Probable Winner
Having played against each other two times previously with the one win each for either side, the two finely balanced oppositions are separated by little on the cricket field. Both the outfits match each other when it comes to team composition and skill set but we’ll be just about favouring V.O.C Rotterdam for this one given that they have a good amount of international names in their squad.
These are names who know what it takes to succeed on the highest level and could prove to be the difference maker at the end of today’s opening match.
Pitch Conditions And Toss
With the surface being a relatively unknown entity with just two match being played on it till date and this being the first of many successive matches to be played on it, expect today’s opening match to have a tricky surface. The track might be watered to see to maintain its composition and hold firm across the 17 encounters which could see the pacers generate pace, swing and bounce for this match.
Apart from that, expect a pretty good batting pitch with the side winning the toss looking to chase over here.

Dream 11 Picks
Wicket-Keepers
Opening the innings for V.O.C Rotterdam, we have picked out Scott Edwards from the side for this one given his attacking intent and penchant to come out and free his arms right from ball one. He loves traversing his way to the fence and could make the most of the early powerplay overs in place.
We are bringing in Dreux’s wicket-keeper as well with Zahir Ammar coming into our side for this one.
Batsmen
One player who we always knew was going to be an undisputed pick for us when we began crafting out our side for this particular fixture was V.O. Rotterdam’s Max O’Dowd. Perhaps the best player to be stepping out in the idle today, the attacking batsman has scored three 50s in his previous 5 encounters and along with his offerings with the ball as well, he becomes a player we just can’t ignore.
Elsewhere, it’s a two man partnership from Dreux with both Mohammad Nisar and Gul Zahid being picked up by us for this match.
All-Rounders
If all-rounders were pivotal to us in the T20 format, the T10 one makes them all the more vital. And opening our facet will be V.O.C Rotterdam’s captain, Pieter Seelar. One of the most important components of his side, the player is an invaluable pick given his ability to intertwine his skill set with both the bat and ball to come up with a barrage of points.
He is going to be accompanied by Dirk Van Baren while coming in from the opposition is Muhammad Bhatti for this encounter.
Bowling Order
Given that this is the opening match and with us yet unsure of how the track and playing conditions doled out will be, we have decided to go in with the bare minimum of three bowlers. Being a small format as well, wickets might not tumble largely in this one and this sees us opt for only Afridi Yaseen from Dreux.
Elsewhere it’s a two man partnership representing us from V.O.C Rotterdam with us picking out their frontline bowlers Ashiqullah Said and Davey Cohen for this encounter given their innate ability to frisk the ball around and pick up wickets at crucial junctures.
Captain And Vice-Captain
Max has been selected as our captain for this fixture while Seelar is the vice-captain.
