Sachin Tendulkar gives a heartfelt speech after winning the Laureus Sporting moment award in Belgium, recalls India’s road to glory.

Even after years of retirement, Sachin Tendulkar’s legacy is still unharmed, so much that Laureus sports award recognized ICC World Cup winning moment in 2011 to be the Sporting moment 2000-2020 winner.

It is indeed quite a big honour, since the turn of the century many memorable moments have happened in the world of sports but this going as one of the most iconic moment surely shows the magnitude of that triumph.

Recalling that night, Sachin Tendulkar shared a heartfelt speech after receiving the award, the former Indian batsman talked about his journey as a cricketer and the value of the two World Cup wins, which could make any Indian cricket fan nostalgic.

Moreover, India’s 2011 World Cup was special as it was for the first time when a team won the cup on home soil and Sachin lifted the world title in his own hometown, where he started his journey in cricket.

Sachin was honoured by tennis legend Boris Becker and former competitor and good friend Steve Waugh. The category was voted on by fans from across the globe and the Award celebrated moments from the past two decades where sport unified people in the most extraordinary way.

Further, British F1 ace Lewis Hamilton and Lionel Messi, arguably the world’s greatest footballer, were declared the joint winners of the prestigious Laureus World Sportsman of the year award.

They received the same number of votes, a first in the 20-year history of the awards with the jury unable to split Hamilton and Messi. The Argentine footballer has won the award for the first time in his career, despite winning 6 footballer of the year awards.

Meanwhile, American gymnast Simone Biles who won five gold medals at the 2019 World Championships, grabbed the World Sportswoman of the year award, her third in four years after winning it in 2017 and in 2019.
