During the second day of the ongoing first Test between India and West Indies at Rajkot, Indian captain Virat Kohli scored a Test hundred, his 24th in Test cricket and 17th as India’s Test captain.
Kohli had come out to bat in the 43rd over of the Indian innings when Cheteshwar Pujara (86) was dismissed by Keemo Paul yesterday. At Stumps on Day 1, Kohli was unbeaten on 72. Kohli had surpassed Sunil Gavaskar’s record of second-most 50+ scores as India’s Test captain.
Resuming the batting on 72, Kohli took his time to settle in on a new day as Rishabh Pant was tearing the opposition bowling attack apart in the morning. Kohli eventually completed his century on the second delivery of the 107th over after scoring a boundary past the short fine-leg fielder off Devendra Bishoo.
Kohli ended up scoring 139 (210) with the help of 10 fours in an innings where ran 99 runs between the wickets, something which speaks highly about his fitness and him laying emphasis on this aspect of the game. It was a possible attempt of increasing the run rate which saw Kohli mis-timing a shot to mid-on off Sherman Lewis.
Given his instrumental form in the home conditions in the last year or so, Kohli deserved to be applauded. And when the appreciation comes from someone of Sachin Tendulkar’s stature, you know that it is special. Tendulkar took to Twitter to convey his wishes to Kohli. Watch the tweet below:

The quintessential @imVkohli cover drive.
It is the most-eye catching shot and the India captain plays it to perfection. Class, poise and balance all rolled into one. With this shot, he also completed 3000 Test runs in India.
