The West Indian left-arm pacer Sheldon Cottrell has owned the spotlight not only for his good performances with the ball in hand, but also for his famous ‘salute’ which he comes up with upon taking a wicket.
The Cottrell salute, as everybody calls it has led the Cricketing fraternity to emulate the same, courtesy the enticing effect in has on people’s mind. After picking up a wicket, he quickly runs a few steps backwards, with his back towards the batsman and gives an energetic salute. As the final celebratory step, he then cut his body loose, to swing both his arms in a backward motion, while looking up in the air.
But, the pacer is not only known for his on field exploits, but also for his off the field befitting replies to fans on the social media sites, which he proved when a fan questioned him on his relatively few number of followers on Twitter.
What did Sheldon Cottrell reply?
A fan apparently questioned one him in one of his tweets as to why he has so many few followers on Twitter. “How has @SaluteCotterell only have 904 followers!?”, questioned the fan. Cottrell apparently is not pretty much active on social media, and is not even a popular figure (until the ongoing World Cup) when compared to his fellow mates in the team like Chris Gayle or Andre Russell.
But, in a typical Windies style with a touch of humour and sarcasm, Cottrell replied- ” “Bc (because) my skills are better on the field than in 280 characters”.
Here’s the befitting reply by Sheldon Cottrell:
It is worth mentioning, that since the aforementioned reply, he has had a significant increase in the number of followers. From 904, since the fan’s comment, he presently (at this instant) has 6,228 followers, growing by hundreds with each passing hour.
