Simon Deli red card vs Man Utd Club Brugge defender sent off after hilarious handball and 5-minute long VAR check

Simon Deli red card vs Man Utd: Club Brugge defender sent off after hilarious handball during the Europa League round of 32 clash.

Manchester United have two routes to the Champions League next season. One is to end up in the final four of the Premier League. The other is to win the Europa League. Both options are still very open with United 5th in the league and currently leading by 3-goals in the Europa clash against Club Brugge.

The first of the 3 goals however, came after Club Brugge defender Simon Deli’s attempt to stop Daniel James’ strike with a very blatant handball. The Welshman sent in a curling effort towards the goal that was stopped by Deli, who struck his hands out to prevent the ball from going past him.

Hilariously, despite the handball being completely obvious, the VAR took an unusually long time before confirming what everyone else already knew.

Simon Deli was rightfully given a red card and was sent off.

Bruno Fernandes stepped up to take the penalty and scored his second goal for the Red Devils. Odion Ighalo then doubled their lead 7 minutes later with his debut goal for Manchester United while Scott McTominay scored his first Europa goal of the season in the 41st minute to turn the tables in United’s favour.

At the time of writing, United have a 3 goal advantage with another half to go. While nothing is for certain in the game of football. You would be forgiven for believing that United now have a foot in the round of 16 of the Europa League.
