Solskjaer: Man Utd manager says the club will take long time to win league after losing to already relegated Cardiff City last night.
Manchetser United has a season to forget and would be looking ahead to make major squad overhaul. The most successful club in England this season disappointed their fans while finishing sixth in the Premier league.
Moreover, the underwhelming performances by the team have left the fans furious, the Red Devils have finished 32 points behind champions Manchester City.
Although, the club was at the second spot during Jose Mourinho’s term but the Portuguese was sacked because of streak of poor performances.
Later, ex-Manchester United striker took the charge of the team as interim manager and taking the the club on a run of 12 games without a defeat, which compelled the club to make him the permanent manager of the club.
However, Manchester United soon collapsed to see themselves five-points behind of the fourth-placed team in the league at the end of the season.
Thus, in an interview to BBC Radio 5 Live Ole Solskjaer said: “More or less the only positive from today is that the season is over. We meet again on 1 July and we will work back to where we belong.”
“To reach the leaders it will take a long time. For ourselves, the short-term focus in the league will be getting into the top four.
“In the league, the points we are behind the top two, they have been excellent, those two. Absolutely exceptional. And we are five or six points behind Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea. They are the ones we have to make sure we catch up and don’t let anyone closer to us.” Solskjaer further said.
It is likely that the club will bring new reinforcements to the club, as the Red Devils manager has kept no secret over his transfer ambitions this summer.
Further, the words of Solskjaer might sound bitter to Manchester United fans, but presently, the Norwegian sounds realistic considering his resources.
