Solskjaer on Fred

Solskjaer on Fred: The Manchester United caretaker manager has reportedly held a one-on-one meeting with midfielder Fred.

Manchester United have been impressive under Solskjaer so far. The side is yet to lose a game under the Norwegian caretaker manager’s charge.

The side also reached the fifth round of the FA Cup with a win over Arsenal last month.

However, one of the players who has had a frustrating time on the bench is the Brazilian midfielder, Fred. The 25-year-old signed for Manchester United in the summer but is yet to establish himself in the first team.

And Solskjaer has now held a one-on-one meeting with the player to talk about his current situation at the club.

Solskjaer on Fred:

The midfielder was inconsistent ever since the start of the season and spent most of his time on the bench even under Jose Mourinho.

Fred is yet to make an appearance for United since the FA Cup third round clash against Reading. The speculations over his future have justifiably grown.

It has now been reported in the English media that Solskjaer has held a one-on-one meeting with Fred to assure him that he remains a part of his plans for the season.

The midfield three of Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba have been brilliant for Manchester United ever since the arrival of Solskjaer.

Last week, the manager opted to play Andreas Pereira instead of the Ander Herrera against Burnley. However, the move backfired as the Brazilian midfielder committed a mistake which resulted in Burnley’s goal.

Solskjaer told Fred that he is impressed with his performance levels during the training sessions and insisted that he will be given more opportunities as the season enters its final stage.

Earlier, Solskjaer was appreciative of Fred after his display in the game against Reading.

“I think the question is wrong because I don’t think it’s my challenge to incorporate players,” Solskjaer said, after the win over Reading. “It’s about the players being ready when they get a chance and Fred, he’s been working hard in training, he’s a good lad.

”We know there’s a very, very good player there with Fred, so hopefully he’ll adjust to the English game because there’s no doubting of his talent.

“It’s always difficult to come here. One, it’s Man United, you’re expected to perform straight away. Two, it’s an English league that he’s not used to, but he’s a Brazilian international.

“Two of the best players I played with who struggled the most were Diego Forlan and Juan Sebastian Veron, you know those two fantastic players, but when they settled, they performed. So I don’t think he needs to worry too much. He’ll get chances.”

Fred’s chances of returning to consistent action have boosted after the departure of Marouane Fellaini. The Belgian midfielder left the side in January for Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng.
