Sophia Floersch was involved in one of the most horrific motorsport accident of all time in the Macau GP yesterday. Her airborne car smashed into the bunker for photographers near the grandstand, injuring two photographers, a marshal too.

Everyone injured in the accident was rushed to the hospital and it was announced that Sophia had suffered a spinal fracture and would be operated the next morning.

Sophia’s father spoke to Motorsport Magazin and provided an update on Sophia’s condition and how she was recovering from the injury.

“According to the attending physicians, the eleven-hour operation went well and Sophia is now being monitored in the intensive care unit and spending the night there from Monday to Tuesday.” her father said.

An official statement on her Twitter account was also released, so as to give the Motorsport fraternity some insight into how everything was coming along for Sophia.

“The medical team is deliberately working slowly to avoid risks. The previous surgical course is good and without complications. The surgery that began this morning continues.” she tweeted.

Her father let the media know that Sophia’s spinal cord wasn’t damaged and she had in fact broken her seventh cervical vertebra.

Sophia’s father revealed that his daughter did remember everything about the crash.

“She can remember all the details, but would not anticipate the investigations and investigations that the World Automobile Federation FIA has officially launched on Sunday.” he said.
