Ganguly interacted with the reporters upon reaching the CAB (Cricket Association of Bengal) headquarters in Kolkata. The former skipper was particular about captain Virat Kohli addressing the team not winning an ICC tournament in the recent times.
“That [winning ICC tournaments] is the only area where they need to get themselves ready mentally. Talent is enormous, otherwise they couldn’t have played so well in the [2019] World Cup till the semi-finals. So that’s an issue which Virat [Kohli] needs to address. And that doesn’t happen in the boardroom,” Ganguly said at the Eden Gardens.
Did Ganguly speak to MS Dhoni and Ravi Shastri after becoming BCCI President?
There have been plentiful speculations about veteran wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s retirement from limited-over formats especially after the ODI World Cup held earlier this year. The 38-year old cricketer making himself unavailable to play has further made people pass opinions.
In the past, Ganguly had opined about Dhoni’s retirement being his personal decision. Being asked about speaking to Dhoni after being elected as the President, Ganguly said, “I have become the President only today; give me a little time”.

There is no hiding to Ganguly and current India head coach Ravi Shastri being at loggerheads in the past. When asked about the same question regarding Shastri, Ganguly ended up giving a similar yet hilarious answer. “Why? What has Ravi Shastri done now [laughs],” Ganguly added.
