The in-form opening batsman from Team India, Shikhar Dhawan has been released from the squad for the imminent ODI series against Australia. He was initially selected in the squad for the first 3 matches, now he has been released from the squad.
It is learnt from BCCI statement that the reason for withdrawing from the squad is that Shikhar Dhawan’s wife is not doing well with her health. Shikhar Dhawan himself requested BCCI to withdrew from the squad to stay with his wife.
The replacement for the stylish southpaw is yet to be named.
“Team India opener Shikhar Dhawan has requested to be released from the team for the first three ODIs of the Paytm Australia tour of India, 2017 to attend to his wife, who is unwell,” read a BCCI statement.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has decided not to name any replacement for Mr Dhawan in Indian Cricket Team,” the statement further added.
Earlier, Virat Kohli quoted in the press conference that Ajinkya Rahane will serve India as the third opener in the limited overs cricket while KL Rahul will continue to be played in the middle-order.
However, shifting of KL Rahul to the opening slot is also on the cards who accumulated a decent tally at the opening position.
However, It is reported that the selection committee is not going to name any replacement for Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane who is the third opener in the squad.
The southpaw was in the fine form and it is a huge blow for the hosts before the series. Dhawan also didn’t feature in the last One Dayer and T20 against Sri Lanka as well.
