The Best FIFA Men's Player 2019: 3 reasons why Lionel Messi should win this award

The Best FIFA Men’s Player: 3 reasons why Lionel Messi should win this award ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Virgil Van Dijk tonight.

FIFA is going to announce its best player awards tonight, and the highlight of the mega-event is the Best Men’s player award amidst all the other prestigious titles.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Virgil Van Dijk are the final three contenders to win the award. Tonight will be decided, who will take the most prestigious individual award.

Last time all three met for an award, it was UEFA player of the year award, and Van Dijk won the award with a good margin. This time also the Dutch International is tipped to win the award.

However, his closest competition in this award is Messi and the Barcelona star also have enough accolades from last season to contest for the award.

There is no doubt that the little success Barcelona could obtain last season was all because of the Argentine International, where he gave match winning performances most of the times.

Thus, Messi has real chance to win the esteemed title of the best player after 2015. With this, we would point out the three reasons why Messi should win the award.

1. Incredible tally of goals and assists

This point has been there since day 1, when it came to Messi Vs Van Dijk for the player of the year award. Yet again, Messi has been able to 50+ goals across all competitions.

He even scored 36 goals in league to make his side win La Liga title in the second successive year. Barcelona’s 90 La Liga goals this season, Messi has either scored or assisted 54.5% of them

Furthermore,  by winning the Pichichi award as La Liga’s top scorer for a sixth time, Messi equalled Telmo Zarra’s all-time record which has stood since 1953.

On top of that, Messi even topped the chart of goalscorers list in the Champions League and taking his side till the semi-finals of the competition after four years, until they were crashed out by Liverpool.

2. Champions League speaks for Messi

The Best FIFA Men's Player 2019Football is a team sport, and achievements of the team do enhance the valuation of the crucial players to achieve the glory. However, it is unfortunate when you perform brilliantly but it takes one bad day to take all away from you.

Similar story is of Messi, he was having one of the best seasons of his career until he crashed out with his team in the second leg against Liverpool.

If Barcelona had survived that match, then the Argentine International would have a better claim to win it, but taking away all the credit because of one match seems bit unfair too.

Messi was ay ahead of all the goalscorers in the Champions League, as he scored 12 goals in 12 games for Barcelona in the competition.

3. Van Dijk himself wants Messi to win

The fact that he delivers displays of such mind-boggling brilliance 25 or 30 times a season should not just be brushed aside. We should appreciate him while we can, and revel in his unmatched splendour.

And if you’re still not convinced, take heed of an informed opinion from a man who played against him last season: “Messi is still the best player in the world and I think he deserves it [the award] as long as he is playing.” said Van Dijk.

Thus, there is no doubt Messi has a good claim at this award, and if he wins it ahead of Van Dijk, then it would be justified at many levels. As at the end of the day it is an individual award.

Taking nothing away from Van Dijk, Messi had another season, which we soon might not see ahead regularly.
