The Indian Cricket Team has a new jersey sponsor
OPPO will be taking over from Star as the jersey sponsor of Team India. The mobile manufacturer(OPPO) has signed a 5 year deal with BCCI, starting April 2017. BCCI would be pleased that the sponsor issue has been sorted way before the Champions Trophy after Star backed out of the bidding process citing ‘lack of clarity’ regarding the future of game.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is pleased to announce OPPO Mobiles India Private Limited as the new team sponsor for the Indian Cricket Team. The mobile manufacturing giant OPPO’s association with BCCI will start from April 2017 for a period of five years.” said the BCCI(in a media release).
The current deal with Star ends after the conclusion of the Australia series, and while a lot of digital companies were in line for the jersey sponsorship(Jio and Paytm), OPPO was able to get the deal for an undisclosed amount.

India will be sporting their new OPPO jerseys in the Champions Trophy in England, which starts on the 1st of June.
The Committee of Administrators(CoA) were in charge of clearing the tender process which was undertaken by Vikram Lamaye.
OPPO are in elite company now, joining the likes of Star Sports, Paytm, Nike, Jana, Hyundai, Pepsi, as well as Vivo, the title sponsor of IPL as one of the sponsors of the BCCI. This should help them bring about a huge boost in their sales.
BCCI were in a soup just a little while earlier, as the Indian Cricket team wasn’t performing up to mark in the series against Australia and there was the issue of the jersey sponsor that had cropped up. They would be thankful that both things got sorted by the end of today, as India knocked over Australia to level the series, and OPPO took the responsibility of being jersey sponsors for the next five years.
