Sir Alex Ferguson was regularly seen chewing gum on the touchline during his 26-year stint at Manchester United.

The celebrated Manchester United manager won countless honours at the club. Sir Alex, however, also finished countless chewing-gum packets during his tenure at Old Trafford.

One can always envision Sir Alex Ferguson bouncing on the touchline, either pointing at his watch or arguing with the linesman, with a chewing-gum in his mouth.

When Manchester United’s current interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was seen chewing gum on the touchline, many club’s fans immediately put out a Sir Alex Ferguson reference.

One would expect the Norwegian to pick some of Sir Alex’s traits. After all, Solskjaer has played the entirety of his Manchester United career under the Scotsman!

However, it has now been revealed that a piece of Sir Alex’s chewing gum in his final game in-charge of the club had allegedly been retrieved and sold online – for a staggering £390,000!

Sir Alex’s chewing gum – for £390,000!

Yes, you read that right.

If the story is to be believed, a fan retrieved Sir Alex’s final piece of chewing gum in his last game in charge at Manchester United. The match ended in a dramatic 5-5 draw against West Bromwich Albion.

The supporter then put the chewing gum on online shopping platform ‘ebay’ to welcome bidders. This is what he wrote:

“Used chewing gum: RARE. Recovered from The Hawthorns. Clear Perspex/wooden case. Unofficial merchandise, rumored to belong to Sir Alex.

“After 1,500 games of intense chewing as manager of Man Utd, here lies Fergie’s last piece of chewing gum. All proceeds go to the MU Foundation charity.”

The bidding eventually fetched £390,000 for the chewing gum, and the funds indeed proceeded to the charity.

The chewing gum was placed inside a wooden box. The sticker on the box read, “The Last Gum: Sir Alex Ferguson, 19.05.2013.”

Sir Alex Ferguson will return to Manchester United dugout in June later this year as Old Trafford gears up for a 1999 European Cup final rematch.
