During the 35th match of the ongoing 12th season of the Indian Premier League between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore at Kolkata, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 10 runs to register their second IPL 2019 victory.
Chasing a mammoth 214-run target, Knight Riders started on a worst possible note after they were reduced to 37/3 in the powerplay. With KKR reeling at 60/3 at the halfway mark, there were least chances of them even standing a chance in the chase.
However, it was middle-order batsman Nitish Rana (85*) and all-rounder Andre Russell who stitched a near-unbelievable 118-run partnership for the fifth-wicket to keep Knight Riders in the contest. With KKR appearing to be lacking in the chase after every over, Russell and Rana made sure that they take the match till the last over.
It was yet another episode of Russell’s brutal power coming into play as the right-hand batsman muscled his way to an insane 65 (25) with the help of two fours and nine sixes. The equation had reduced down to the hosts needing 23 runs in the last four balls. Having said that, it was a calm Moeen Ali who held his nerves with the ball in hand in the last over.
After KKR captain Dinesh Karthik won the toss and put the visitors in to bat, RCB ended up scoring 213/4 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. It was visiting captain Virat Kohli’s fifth IPL century which propelled his team to a formidable score.

Whatever the result tonight, the things that Andre Russell is doing with the bat in this #VivoIPL is simply astonishing and remarkable. Almost every game. His range of scoring and power hitting has evolved even more than a year ago.

At a point of time it did feel like @NitishRana_27 and @Russell12A will get KKR over the line but this batting order is over dependent. The top 4 could have had a better strike rate!#KKRvRCB
