Twitter reactions on Dinesh Karthik refusing a single

Twitter reactions on Dinesh Karthik refusing a single: Twitter lashed out at the Indian batsman for his mistake in the last over.

During the third T20I of the ongoing India’s tour of New Zealand at Hamilton, New Zealand defeated India by 4 runs to win the three-match T20I series 2-1. The given result meant that India lost their first series on their tour of Australia an New Zealand.

Chasing a mammoth 213-run target in the deciding T20I, India ended up scoring 208-6 in 20 overs. Having regularly lost middle-order wickets, India gave the impression of lacking behind in the chase.

Having said that, it was a 63-run unbeaten partnership for the seventh wicket between Dinesh Karthik (33) and Krunal Pandya (26) which saw India stay alive in the game till the last three balls of the match.

Requiring 16 runs from the last over, Karthik scored a couple of runs on the first two balls. With him hitting the ball to long-on and refusing a single on the following delivery, it invited a lot of criticism for there was a set batsman at the other end and not a bowler.

All-rounder Vijay Shankar, who came in to bat at No. 3, top-scored for India scoring 43 (28) with the help of five fours and two sixes. With bowling figures of 3-0-27-2, Daryl Mitchell was the pick of the Kiwi bowlers.

Earlier, India captain Rohit Sharma put the hosts in to bat after winning the toss. In their allotted quota of 20 overs, New Zealand ended up scoring 212-4. Opening batsman Colin Munro top-scored for his team scoring his ninth T20I half-century, 72 (40), with the help of five fours and five sixes.

In what was the only change for India, they swapped their wrist-spinner including Kuldeep Yadav in place of Yuzvendra Chahal. With bowling figures of 4-0-26-2, Kuldeep Yadav justified his selection by being India’s best bowler in the match.
