During the fourth day of the fourth Test of the ongoing India’s tour of Australia at Sydney, India chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav picked up his second five-wicket haul in Test matches as Australia were bundled out for 300 in 104.5 overs in the first innings.
Rain played the spoilsport in the first half of Day 4 as no play was possible. Resuming batting on 236-6, Australia’s lower-order was dismissed by Indian bowlers in just over an hour.
After fast bowlers Mohammad Shami and Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Pat Cummins (25) and Peter Handscomb (37) respectively, Yadav picked up the last two wickets to register his second five-fer in only his sixth Test.
On the penultimate delivery of the 91st over, Australia off-spinner Nathan Lyon’s attempt of sweeping a fuller delivery saw him missing the ball altogether. With the ball hitting his pads in front of the wickets, he had to take the long walk back to the pavilion without scoring.
India had to toil for the last wicket as Australia’s new ball pair of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood stitched a 42-run stand for the last wicket. It was once again Yadav, who pinned Hazlewood (21) in front of the stumps.
After not being picked for the first three matches, Yadav would have been delighted to make a telling contribution. It is worth mentioning that it was him who made inroads into the Australian batting line-up by dismissing Usman Khawaja (27) yesterday.
Towards the end of the third day, Yadav also got the wickets of Travis Head (20) and Australia captain Tim Paine (5) in quick succession. Having finished the first innings with bowling figures of 31.5-6-99-5, Yadav would be looking to make a similar impact in the second innings as well.

Kuldeep’s 5-wkt haul rebeals the remarkable depth in India’s bowling attack, pace and spin. Even in Ishant’s and Ashwin’s absence, no dearth of wicket takers

Always thought Kuldeep Yadav is a match winner and can rattle any side on any surface. It is high time that Indian team start including him in playing XI. @BCCI @imkuldeep18 #INDvAUS

Kuldeep Yadav may have his off days, but he is a clear cut matchwinner like Jasprit Bumrah. Finishes with a five-wicket haul playing after a big gap. #AUSvsIND
