Twitter reactions on Mayank Agarwal's half-century

Twitter reactions on Mayank Agarwal’s half-century: Twitter was elated on the debutant opener scoring a half-century.

During the first day of the third Test of the ongoing India’s tour of Australia at Melbourne, debutant India opening batsman Mayank Agarwal scored an impressive half-century, the first by an Indian opening batsman in this series.

After not being originally named in the squad, Agarwal received a call-up after teenager opening batsman Prithvi Shaw injured himself during the warm-up match.

After receiving a maiden call-up during the series against West Indies, but being subsequently dropped without a chance, Agarwal was always in line to be named in the Indian squad. Furthermore, with the amount of runs that he had scored in the recent past, it was only a matter of time for him to come good at the highest level.

Opening the batting with a makeshift opener in Hanuma Vihari, the duo added 40 runs for the first wicket. More important was the fact that they occupied the crease for nearly 19 overs, something which no other Indian opening pair has done since 2011.

Citing the big occasion, Agarwal didn’t give the impression of being bogged down by the same. The 27-year old right-hand batsman stood tall against the Australian quick bowlers, playing his natural shots without much discomfort.

After Vihari’s dismissal, Agarwal batted with Cheteshwar Pujara till lunch as India finished the first session at 57-1 in 28 overs. With the help of three fours, Agarwal had scored 34* (68) in the first session.

In the 36th over, Agarwal put on display signs of aggression by stepping out against Nathan Lyon twice to score a couple of boundaries to reach to his maiden Test half-century.

Agarwal’s valiant effort saw him receiving approbation on social media platform Twitter. Read some of the latest tweets on Agarwal below:
