Twitter reactions on Rishabh Pant’s sloppy wicket-keeping: Twitter was furious with the rookie wicket-keeper missing several chances.

During the fourth ODI of the ongoing Australia’s tour of India at Mohali, India wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant’s shambolic wicket-keeping saw him alluring severe criticism from all ends. Pant missed as many as two stumping dismissals and a tough catch to continually err in the second innings.

The lowest point of Pant’s presence in the match came when the hostile crowd at Mohali started to chant “Dhoni Dhoni” in a bid to lash out at Pant. Replacing the veteran cricketer in the playing XI today, it was the first time that Pant had kept wickets in ODIs.

During the tour of Australia earlier this year, Pant had played a record-breaking series as far as his wicket-keeping was concerned. Not that he had limited skills as a wicket-keeper, tonight was more a case when he probably erred in the wrong manner and at the wrong time.

With the bat in hand in the first innings, Pant played a vital innings towards the slog overs. Coming in to bat at No. 5 in the 40th over, Pant ended up scoring 36 (24) with the help of four fours and a six.

While Pant missed a stumping chance to dismiss Australia middle-order batsman Peter Handscomb in the 39th over, he missed another one off Yuzvendra Chahal to dismiss Ashton Turner in the 44th over. With him also giving an extra run in the same over invited plentiful criticism.

With both Handscomb and Turner emerging as Australia’s heroes for the match, it was the primary reason why Pant was at the receiving end of disapproval. Being considered as a potential replacement for MS Dhoni, Pant was slammed with respect to the same on social media platform Twitter.
