Twitter reactions on Winnipeg Hawks winning GLT20 2019: The final match between Winnipeg and Vancouver was a nerve-wrenching affair.

During the final match of the second edition of the Global T20 League 2019 between Winnipeg Hawks and Vancouver Knights at Brampton, Winnipeg beat defending champions Vancouver to register their maiden GLT20 title.

The match ended up becoming the second high-profile final to enter the super over this year. The nerve-wrenching affair was the perfect way to end a successful tournament.

After Vancouver captain Shoaib Malik won the toss and put the opposition in to bat, Winnipeg posted a dominating 192/8 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Opening batman Shaiman Anwar top-scored for Knights scoring 90 (45) with the help of eight fours and seven sixes.

Been restricted to 39/3 inside the powerplay, Knights’ prospects of winning the match had reached an all-time low. Having said that, it was an 86-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Malik (64) and Saad Bin Zafar (27) which brought them back into the encounter.

Having registered bowling figures of 4-0-29-3 in the first innings, all-rounder Andre Russell was the pick of the bowlers for the Knights. Needing 53 runs to win the match in the last three overs, it was a quintessential Russell show which saw the match entering into a super over.

Coming in to bat at No. 7 in the 17th over, Russell played all the remaining deliveries to score 46* (20) with the help of three fours and five sixes. However, his effort wasn’t enough as Hawks scored 10 runs in the super over to lift the title.
