Jon Jones has officially vacated the UFC Light Heavyweight Title. And with this there is a major uncertainty around the 33-year-old’s future.
Jon Jones, who is among the greatest MMA professionals, relinquished the UFC Light Heavyweight title which he won at UFC 232 (October 2018). Jones has recently been in a prolong argument with Dana White over the fight payout, and hasn’t competed since February 2020. Now after months of lack of interest to fight again, Jon Jones on August 17, via Twitter has announced he is not keeping the Light Heavyweight title anymore.
Just got off the phone with @Ufc, today I confirm that I’m vacating the light heavyweight championship. It’s officially up for grabs. It’s been an amazing journey, sincere thank you to all my competition, Ufc and most importantly you fans.

Jon Jones Vacates UFC Heavyweight Title, Will Enjoy UFC as a Fan
Jon Jones might have renounced the title, but did not shut doors of a comeback. Jones via Twitter conveyed that he will compete again as a heavyweight if in future UFC contacts to negotiate salary, but till then he will enjoy the action as a fan, and would give emphasis to his family and community.
The last I spoke with @UFC about my salary there was no negotiating. If that ever changes, i’d love to come back and compete again as a heavyweight. Until then, I’ll be enjoying Ufc has a fan and doing my best to take care of my family and community https://t.co/NoTTpRTMH0

Jones, 26-1-1, also informed via Twitter, that he will continue to train, and will remain in the testing pool for some time.
In good faith I will be staying in the testing pool for probably the next half year or so. I’ll continue to lift weights and train all the different martial arts

This move by Jon Jones has come as a surprise, since speculations about him going against Stipe Miocic, and Dominick Reyes were quite palpable. However, with Francic Ngannou the next possible challenge for Miocic, and with Rayes Vs. Blackowicz already in works, the speculations were later eradicated. Yet, Jones was the champion, and No.1 in Light Heavyweight division, and that position always gets the primary importance.
Jon Jones May Compete Again After Salary Negotiation
A couple of hours after vacating the title, Jon Jones threw another major update, which may lift the spirits of his fans again. Jones again via Twitter gave a peek about his status quo, but this time showed the optimistic side.
Just had a really positive conversation with @Ufc. Sounds like there will be negotiations for my next fight at heavy weight. All good news, the weight gaining process begins.
