Van Dijk's error almost cost Liverpool 3 points against Watford

Van Dijk’s error could have cost Liverpool three points in the game against Watford, as the star defender shows impatience in front of goal.

Liverpool had a scrappy win against Watford as a brace by Mohamed Salah kept the winning streak of Liverpool in the Premier League alive. However, it could have been different if Van Dijk’s error had turned into a disaster.

The Reds were just 1-0 up against the Hornets when Van Dijk received the ball from the midfield, he had enough space but the Dutch International did not show patience and passed it back to Alisson Becker.

The Brazilian goalkeeper was way ahead of the goal-post, yet Van Dijk who anticipated his move made the back-pass towards Alisson only to see the ball go very near from the goal.

Surely, it was a reckless pass by Van Dijk and it could have cost Liverpool the game had the ball gone past Alisson. Fortunately for the Reds, the ball went outside and kept Liverpool’s lead intact.

Further, Liverpool extended their lead in the game as Salah’s sensational back-heel goal extended the lead for Liverpool to secure three points for the Reds.

It could have been 3-0 if Sadio Mane’s goal had not been ruled offside by the VAR, but the much controversial technology once again raised eyebrows for ruling out the Senegalese International’s goal.

Liverpool has secured 49 points in the table after 17 league games and is now heading to play the club world cup in Qatar. Their game against West Ham in the 18th game-week has been rescheduled.

With this, the Reds are more than closer to win the league, with only Leicester City only giving a tough challenge to them in the league table.
