Stats show that Marcus Rashford has performed equal to or better than Salah and Mane

Stats show that Marcus Rashford has performed equal to or better than Salah and Mane this season despite United’s troubling start.

Manchester United’s misery seems endless. The club have struggled for goals and have failed to win matches. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had a perfect start to the season beating Chelsea 4-0. However, they have since succumbed to embarrassing losses to Crystal Palace and Newcastle United.

The club had to put their best effort of the season to pick a single point from the game vs Liverpool at home. With that, Manchester United ended Liverpool’s winning streak in the Premier League. However, the hiccup has not been a cause of concern for the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have swept their opponents left and right with fans believing that the club could finally win its maiden Premier League title. The architects of their success have been the usual suspects of Mohammed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

The trio are widely regarded as the best front three of all the teams in the Premier League. Liverpool have scored goals by the bulk in almost every other match. Manchester United on the other hand, have struggled on the same front.

The side let go of Romelu Lukaku in the summer with Solskjaer putting his trust in Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial. However, the duo with Rashford in particular, have received a lot of stick for their inability to find the back of the net.

A tweet from a fan though, has shown that the criticism directed towards Rashford has been unwarranted. In fact, the English international stats in comparison to both Salah and Mane, either equals or betters them!

While surprising, perhaps it points to the lack of support that Rashford has received from his teammates. It also shows how easy it is to become a laughing stock when the chips are down. If Rashford would have played for a different team, perhaps the fans would have been singing his praises instead.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has repeatedly said that Rashford is an important component of the side. The stats seem to back his claim. However, the team as a whole will have to improve if they are to make it to Europe next season.
