Manchester United’s terrific run against the big 6 came to an end at the dawn of the new year after Arsenal beat them 2-0 at the Emirates. Nicolas Pepe was the Gunner’s standout performer on the night. Harry Maguire on the other hand, was Manchester United’s worst player on the field last night.
He has certainly been an improvement on Manchester United’s defence in the past seasons. However, Harry Maguire is the most expensive defender in the world. This inadvertently comes with expectations that the centre back will have to fulfil almost every time he takes to the field.
The England international was heavily mocked on Social Media after Manchester United’s hapless showing. So much so, that a compilation video featuring his abysmal performance has now gone viral.

The video features many of Harry Maguire’s mistakes from last night’s match. From reckless defending to giving possession away and being turned inside out by Alexendre Lacazette. Last night was a nightmare for him and unfortunately, it has now been bought to several people’s attention.
Maguire’s fee will always draw comparisons with Virgil Van Dijk, the previous most expensive defender in the world. While Van Dijk is in terrific form with Liverpool, United’s inconsistent showing will unfortunately, always draw attention to the lack of impact, or at least not at Van Dijk’s level, from Maguire.
