WADA claims that an Indian cricketer tested positive for doping

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) report of 2016 suggests that an Indian cricketer was tested positive for doping in 2016. This is huge news as it was all kept under wraps by the BCCI with no one having any idea of something like this.

According to report, 138 Indian cricketers registered under the BCCI had tested ‘In Competition’ out of which one player was tested positive. It is quite possible that the player in question had tested positive during a domestic match as they would also come under the realms of ‘In Competition’.

There was an earlier instance when Pradeep Sangwan was tested positive while he was playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. The bowler was then ineligible to play and had to leave and get himself sorted out.

While the report does not mention anything explicitly, it is also possible that it was an international cricketer. Nothing can be confirmed though, as the BCCI have not yet revealed the name of the player in question.

When the BCCI was contacted about this a top official had this to say, “We haven’t received any report from the WADA as of now so we are not in a position to reveal the name of the cricketer.”

While the inevitable blame game will surely follow, one must understand that this is a very serious complaint that should be brought to the public eyes. The BCCI should reveal the name of this person, because eventually the news will come out from some where.

Let’s hope that the BCCI does what is right!
