Roger Federer

He wiped the sweat of his face, looked up at Cilic, bounced the ball on the court and went through his majestic serve motion, catching the line, winning the point, winning his 20th Grand Slam title.

Roger Federer had done it. He had just traversed one of Tennis’s unimaginable feats and it was all just so very magical.

Cilic made him wait though, throughout the match and also during his moment of glory, challenging the linesmen’s call on that final serve.

Roger was ecstatic, in this moment of surrealism, lifting his arms in joy, fighting his tears, and walking towards the net, exhibiting the purest form of joy.

And that joy continued into his on-court presentation, wherein he was short of words and full of tears of joy.

“I’m so happy it’s unbelievable,” Federer said.

“It’s a long day waiting for the finals it’s easy when it’s in the afternoon you sleep and play and that’s it. When it’s at night you think about it all day and it’s tough.

“The fairytale continues for me after the great year I had last year it’s incredible.” he added.
He then went onto praise Cilic for such an amazing tournament and rising to number 3 in the ATP rankings.

“I’d like to thank Marin… another great tournament goes to world No.3… keep doing what you’re doing and achieve more.” the 6 time Australian Open Champion said.

He was also all praise for Australia and how the country and the people had been so hospitable to the Federer family.
“We had a wonderful time here in Australia, we started in Perth, arrived last year and still here had the best time with the family and thank you so much, you guys are unbelievable as a country of people.

“Rocket Rod Laver it’s nice to see you again. Ashley Cooper thanks for presenting the trophy it’s an absolute honour.

“I love you guys thank you!” Federer concluded.

The tears then started to flow, as Roger kissed the Norman Brooks Trophy, signalling to the crowd and his box, after what was probably one of the most satisfying wins of his career.
