Against all odds, Arsenal look the lead against AC Milan at the San Siro, as Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored his first goal in an Arsenal shirt to give his team a priceless opening goal.
Arsenal were under incredible pressure heading into the first leg, as four consecutive defeats out Wenger’s side under huge stress. Media and fans alike were furious with the Arsenal manager, as calls for the Frenchman to resign have increased in number.
AC Milan started off the match in great fashion, as the home side had a few corners within the opening couple of minutes. But Arsenal showed glimpses of their potential as Ozil, Welbeck and Mkhi combined to fashion a couple of chances for the Londeners.
Mkhi then opened the scoring, as he fired the Gunners into the lead. Milan lost possession, which was picked up by Ozil who immediately released Mkhi. The Armenian then kept his cool and smashed the ball, via deflection, into the roof of the goal.
The travelling Arsenal fans went bonkers, as they have had precious little to cheer over the last few weeks. Arsene Wenger’s face broke into a smile in what seemed like the first time in an eternity, as Arsenal got a precious away goal in this tie.
Arsenal will now need to keep their head, as they should hold firm and not let this advantage to slip by. Even a 1-1 scoreline would be a brilliant one for the Gunners, which is why the Arsenal defense needs to hold firm tonight!
