Watch: Jasprit Bumrah bowls a brute of a delivery to dismiss Finn Allen in India vs New Zealand XI practice match on the second day.

India are currently taking on New Zealand XI ahead of the first Test at Basin Reserve in Wellington. The side are looking to find their ideal combination through this practice match. However, their batting performance on the first day left a lot to be desired.

Barring Hanuman Vihari, who scored a hundred and Cheteshwar Pujara, who made 93, the other batsmen folded like a house of cards. Vihari and Pujara stitched together a 195-run partnership. However, lack of contributions from others saw India bowled out for 263.

India responded well by dismissing their opponents for 235. All four of India’s fast bowlers were among the wickets. Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers with 3-17. However, it was Bumrah’s performance that was the most heartening, especially considering his failure to pick up a single wicket in the recently concluded One Day series.

Quick wickets from Bumrah and Shami saw New Zealand XI struggle at 36-2. However, opener Rachin Ravindra and Finn Alen stuck their ground and threatened to take the match away. Jasprit Bumrah however, had other ideas as he came back to bowl a peach to break the partnership and put the brakes on their innings.

Prtihivi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal put in a much better performance in India’s second innings. The pair ended the day with 59 for no loss and with a lead of 87 runs. Shaw scored 35 while Agarwal made 23. The pair muscled 2 sixes and 9 boundaries together to give India a solid start.
