Manchester United were in for a tricky night at the Vicarage road, especially with what happened last time round when United visited Watford. And with United’s woes with travel in the league this year, Jose Mourinho had to ensure that United avoided any slip ups especially with City running away with the show at the top of the table.

And the night did not start perfectly for the Red Devils, as they just couldn’t get a stronghold over the game, with Watford playing beautifully from the back and dictating play right from the word go.

But just as it was getting a little too difficult for Manchester United, Ashley Young stepped up and scored a thunderous volley past Gomez. And while we felt Young had done enough for the night, he took charge of a free kick and absolutely blasted it past Gomez, who had no chance of saving it.

Martial then made it 3-0 and at it looked like game over for Watford at that point, but they had other ideas. Watford made it 3-2 in the dying minutes of the game and it looked like United could be staring down another away draw.

Lingard though had other ideas, and for someone to have received so much criticism over the past year for his performances, Lingard for once, bailed United out big time.

He took a stray ball in the United half and ran with it for 70 yards, gliding through defenders and ultimately slotting the ball past Gomez in emphatic style to gift United a tough away win.

United are now 5 points behind City(who play Southampton tonight) and would be hoping that they can catch up on their neighbours in the coming weeks.
