MS Dhoni affects two run-outs on one delivery

MS Dhoni affects two run-outs on one delivery: The legendary wicket-keeper seem to be doing nothing wrong behind the wickets.

During the first T20I of the ongoing Australia’s tour of India at Visakhapatnam, former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni and all-rounder Krunal Pandya ran out Australia opening batsman D’Arcy Short.

It all happened on the second delivery of the 16th over after Australia wicket-keeper batsman Peter Handscomb played an Umesh Yadav delivery on the leg-side. While running the second run, both the batsmen were involved in a massive confusion in the middle of the pitch.

By this time, Pandya’s throw had reached Dhoni who had dislodged the bails at the batsmen’s end. With both the batsmen in the middle of the pitch, Short was the one to take the long walk back. He ended up scoring 37 (37) with the help of five fours.

What caught the attention of plentiful fans was that Dhoni had thrown the ball to Yadav at the non-striker’s end. Funnily enough, even he dislodged the bails to make sure that at least one batsman gets out.

Nerve-wrenching finish

The match was undoubtedly in the visitors’ hand at this point in time. However, other than conceding just two runs in the penultimate over of the match, fast bowler Japrit Bumrah also dismissed Handscomb (13) and Nathan Coulter-Nile (4) on the last two balls of the penultimate over. With 14 runs to defend in the last over, the onus was on fast bowler Umesh Yadav.

While Yadav gave away only a single on the first ball of the over, he conceded a boundary off Jhye Richardson on the next ball. A yorker on the following delivery saw the Australian batsmen run a couple of runs.

With seven runs required off three balls, Yadav erred in pressure as he bowled a couple of full-toss balls. The penultimate delivery of the over going for the second boundary in it changed things around for the visitors. Pat Cummins and Richardson running a couple of runs on the last ball of the over sealed the chase for Australia.
