The ongoing fifth season of the Pakistan Super League has been postponed in the wake of the outbreak of a “pandemic” in coronavirus.

In its business end, PSL 2020 was the only top-level cricketing tournament which was being conducted in times when the virus has had a significant impact on the sport.

It is worth mentioning that the organizers had earlier shortened the tournament by four days by changing the format of the knockout phase. With two semi-final matches set to be played today followed by the final tomorrow, the same will now be played on a later date.

Multans Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars were the four teams who had qualified for the next round.

Speaking to the reporters after the postponement of the tournament, former Pakistan captain and current commentator Ramiz Raja considered it unfortunate that PSL 2020 couldn’t be completed. Understanding the safety of all concerned individuals, Raja believed that it’s good that such a decision has been taken.

The 57-year old further advised the people of Pakistan to adopt all preventive measures to make sure that they don’t get affected by the virus.

Raja also revealed that Karachi Kings batsman Alex Hales is being tested for coronavirus in England. “Aap logon ko toh zyada pata hoga hi Alex Hales ko test karwa rahe hai jiski wajah se problem badh gayi [You guys know that Alex Hales getting tested led to more problem],” Raja was quoted as saying.
