During the third day of the first Test of the ongoing South Africa’s tour of India in Visakhapatnam, India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin didn’t let a halt from international cricket affect his rhythm as he constantly dismissed the opposition batsmen.
Among one of Ashwin’s victims was South Africa wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock who got out after scoring his fifth Test century. Given the manner in which de Kock was scoring runs, it required some high-class planning on the part of the Indian bowlers to dismiss him.
It was exactly what Ashwin successfully attempted in the 110th over where he sent back de Kock after three deliveries. Bowling to a left-handed batsman, Ashwin started with a couple of archetype deliveries which beat the batsman outside his off-stump.
Just when the de Kock might have thought of another delivery of similar nature, Ashwin bowled a delivery which went straight into the batsman to hit his stumps. Having picked two wickets last evening, Ashwin picked his second wicket of the day in the form of de Kock.
Coming in to bat at No. 7 in the 58th over, de Kock shared a 164-run partnership for the sixth wicket with opening batsman Dean Elgar (160). Before getting out, de Kock ended up scoring 111 (163) with the help of 16 fours and two sixes.

SA have shown admirable resistance, but long way behind still match. If India get lead of 90-100, SA’s position gets precarious. Playing Ashwin and Jadeja on 5th day will make excruciating demands on technique & temperament. Few overseas teams have survived this
