During the third day of the second Test of the ongoing India’s tour of Australia at Perth, India wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant hit a monumental six off Australia off-spinner Nathan Lyon.
Pant, who came in to bat at No. 7 in the 86th over, ended up scoring 36 (50) with the help of two fours and a six. While the Indian team and fans would have wanted for him to take India much closer to the Australian total, Pant made sure that India’s trail remained under 50 runs.
With India playing four specialist fast bowlers and with all of them having minimal potential with the bat, Pant was practically left with not many batting partners. Therefore, playing the big shots seemed to be his sole option in a bid to accumulate runs against a quality bowling attack.
Pant was the penultimate Indian batsman to be dismissed, eventually getting out in the 106th over of the innings. It was Pant’s attempt to up the ante which saw him mis-timing a Nathan Lyon delivery to Mitchell Starc at long-on.
Of the three boundaries which he hit, Pant took on Lyon in the 102nd over of the innings when he hit a four and a six in the same over against Australia’s premier off-spinner. On the third ball of the over, Pant stepped out to loft a delivery over the bowler’s head.
In which was a colossal hit, it ended up landing on the second tier of the Perth stadium. Watch the full video below:

Read some of the latest Twitter reactions on Pant below:
This is my problem with Rishabh Pant. I don’t mind his aggressive batting. But in a situation like this where we are trying to close down the first innings deficit, he is looking to clear the long Australian ground… https://t.co/xvVQHPqzcA

Once again Rishabh Pant hitting shots against the spin. I think the management has to have a word with him to play shots through the line @MClarke23 @MichaelVaughan @darren_lehmann #AUSvIND

I think Rishabh Pant Should Bat Higher In The Order…He Is Not A Tail Ender…Batting Alongside Solid Batsmen Like Pujara Could Help Him Stay Longer On Crease….He Is Scoring Good Amount Of Runs… #AusVsInd #Pant #RishabhPant

Yes,Rishabh pant is left side slogger, that’s all about him.
Australia should be well aware of this fact.
Pitch the bowl on his off side constantly, and bowlers would get their reward.— Aayushi Rathi 🇮🇳💫 (@aayushi07rathi) December 16, 2018
Why is Rishabh Pant constantly taking singles and not playing himself rathee than exposing the tail? @cricbuzz #INDvsAUS

Don’t see Rishabh Pant playing Test cricket for too long if he keeps throwing his wicket away everytime. He’s no Gilchrist. #AUSvIND
