Sergio Ramos gets a red card in the closing stages of the game as Girona defeated Real Madrid 2-1.

Sergio Ramos receives his first red card since December 2017 as Real Madrid concede a defeat to Girona in the La Liga.

This was Ramos’ 25th red card for Real Madrid across all competitions.

The Real Madrid captain will miss Real Madrid’s next two league games, which also include the El Clasico at Santiago Bernabeu. He is eligible to play in the Copa del Rey semifinal against Barcelona, however.

Ramos tried an overhead kick but the Girona defender was already clearing the ball. The referee had little alternative but to put out a yellow, which was also the defender’s second booking in the game.

Real Madrid have dropped down to third position in the La Liga table with this loss and are nine points behind leaders Barcelona. Valverde’s side registered a 1-0 victory over Real Valladolid last night with Messi scoring the only goal of the game through a penalty.
