India’s new pace attack for the T20 series against Sri Lanka is something that will excite Indian cricket fans, as a new crop of players have made it to the squad, and all three of them would be hoping to make a huge impact during this series in order to cement their place in the T20 side and maybe creep in to the ODI side as well.

Thampi, Siraj and Unadkat have been rewarded for good IPL and domestic performances and with this squad announcement, it seems like the BCCI is open to experimenting in the shortest format of the game.

Now the stage is all set for the young crop of pacers to showcase their mettle. It’s all about doing the basics right for the youngsters.

While Thampi and Siraj could make their debut for the Indian team, Unadkat is making a comeback of sorts, having broken into the national side a few years back but having gone off radar ever since.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India released a video in their official Twitter account as the caption went on to welcome the new pace attack.

“Say hello to our new pace attack comprising @JUnadkat, Mohammed Siraj and Basil Thampi. #TeamIndia #INDvSL.”

MS Dhoni can also be seen hitting the ball in the nets, facing these youngsters.

BCCI is also planning to send Mohammed Siraj, Basil Thampi, Jaydev Unadkat to South Africa in order to help these pacers get a feel for the conditions there and to help them prepare for further future tours.

The South African tour and the Sri Lanka series could prove to be a huge learning curve for these youngsters, as they will be able to perform during match scenarios and be able to ply their trade in the nets in foreign conditions.

This is the right time for India to form a new core of young pace bowlers, so that their bench strength is in place before the 2019 World Cup in England.
