Yuvraj Singh’s magnificent innings in Global T20 Canada 2019 match vs Edmonton Royals guided Toronto Nationals to two-wicket win in Brampton

During the third match of the second edition of the Global Canada T20 2019 between Toronto Nationals and Edmonton Royals, Nationals’ skipper Yuvraj Singh, played a scintillating knock to guide his team to a two-wicket victory, in what was a humdinger of a match.

All eyes have been on Yuvraj Singh since his decision to take part in the league, with Canadian supporters pouring in huge numbers to watch their Punjabi boy in action. It was a perfect opportunity for Yuvraj to live up to his fans’ expectations as the Nationals’ were given a stiff target of 192 in 19 overs.

Walking in to bat a No.4 in the batting order, Yuvraj started in an aggressive manner right from the word go, hitting a boundary off the very first ball he faced towards the Fine Leg region.

Yuvraj hits three mammoth sixes

Starting his innings on a positive note, Yuvraj soon took on Edmonton Royals’ leg-spinner from Pakistan- Shadab Khan in the ninth over of the second innings.

He hit the 4th and the 5th delivery of the leg-spinner for maximums straight down the ground. Again hit Ben Cutting for a huge maximum towards the long-on fence, before getting Out the very next delivery off a slower delivery hand an easy catch back towards Cutting.

He played a quickfire innings of 35 of 21 deliveries with the help of three fours and as many sixes.

Soon after his dismissal and later Heinrich Klassen’s (45 off 39) in the 14th over, things looked apparently impossible for Nationals with 65 required off the final five overs, and only three wickets remaining in the bank.

But, Manpreet Gony (33 off 12 deliveries) smashed some humongous sixes to bring back life into the contest. He finally got Out with Nationals’ requiring another 27 runs off 18 deliveries. Some smart batting post Manpreet’s wicket by Salman Nazar (9* off 6) and Mark Montfort (10* off 9) helped Yuvraj’s team sail over the line to hand a two-wicket victory to the Toronto Nationals- their maiden victory in the tournament.
