33-year old David Martin was handed his Premier League debut. Although he has played for 11 clubs in his career, a majority of his time was spent in League one with MK Dons. Martin was bought to London this summer as their third-choice keeper.

However, Lukasz Fabianski’s injury and Roberto’s nightmare run between the sticks allowed him to finally make his first Premier League start on Saturday. Martin played all 90 minutes and performed very well to keep a clean sheet.

At the end of full-time, West Ham celebrated their first 3 points in months. However, for David Martin, the moment proved to be quite overwhelming as he fell to his knees and burst into tears. His teammates soon ran to console him and celebrated their victory together.

Speaking after the match. per metro, Martin said:

“My dad didn’t say much – I think we were both in tears! For my dad to play for the club for 21 years and see it, and for me to make my debut, keep clean sheet and get win for the boys, it is so pleasing.”
