"What a game": Lisa Sthalekar reacts to unbelievable Irfan Pathan-Manpreet Gony partnership in Road Safety World Series

Irfan Pathan-Manpreet Gony partnership: Entertainment was on display in Raipur despite India Legends losing the match.

During the ninth match of the ongoing Road Safety World Series between India Legends and England Legends in Raipur, England Legends beat India Legends by 6 runs in a cliffhanger finish.

Chasing a 189-run target, India Legends were reduced to 56/5 before the halfway mark. Having lost half their side, the hosts’ last hope lied in the brother-pair of Yusuf Pathan and Irfan Pathan.

A 43-run partnership for the sixth wicket did bring India Legends back into the match but Yusuf departing after scoring 17 (15) once again put them in trouble.

With Irfan Pathan finding his mojo with the bat by playing some exquisite shots, he found a significant helping hand in fast bowler Manpreet Gony. The pair put together an unbeaten 63-run partnership off 26 balls to hit the English bowlers to all parts of the park and put on display a super-entertaining comeback which was enjoyed by one and all.

Pathan’s stroke-play in combination with Gony using brute force kept India Legends in contention to seal the chase until the penultimate delivery of the match. While Pathan ended up scoring 34-ball 61 (not out) including four fours and five sixes, Gony contributed with a hard-hitting 16-ball 35 (not out) comprising of a four and four sixes.

For England, captain Kevin Pietersen had amassed 75 (37) with the help of six fours and five sixes after India Legends captain Sachin Tendulkar had asked the visitors to bat first. In the second innings, England Legends spinner Monty Panesar ran through the Indian top-order with bowling figures of 4-1-15-3.
