While Riot’s shooter is known for its huge collection of playable Agents, players are also curious about their backstories. The creative team at Valorant makes sure to knit together a compelling story for each of their Agents. However, all of those are told in a very subtle manner.

Since Deadlock is a fresh new addition to the game, nothing much is known about her. Be it as it may, we brought together as much information as we could gather. And, created this compelling deep-dive for you to understand her lore.

About Deadlock and her lore in Valorant

Deadlock is the fifth Sentinel addition to Valorant Protocol, also known as Agent 23. Hailing from Norway, the new recruit was part of a group called Ståljeger, which translates to Steel Hunter. This group has been shown in Episode 7 cinematic called Unmade.

In the cinematic, this group is sent to an unknown facility once an unknown incident shut it down mysteriously. Upon entry, they realized this facility contained a radianite-affected bear that slowly started to hunt every member of Deadlock’s team. While trying to fight off this mutant bear, Deadlock loses her arm as a trade for life. Right before she was about to collapse, the new Agent sends a distress signal to Kingdom for a rescue operation.

Sova and Cypher worked hand in hand to rescue the injured Deadlock by going to this mysterious facility. This operation was revealed officially by Riot Games when teasing the new Agent before releasing the Unmade cinematic. Upon finding her, Sova brought her back to the main base. And, during recovery, Killjoy fitted a new mechanical prosthetic arm for her. This arm uses a nanowire accelerator that can trap her enemies in a cocoon and eventually eliminate them.

Since both Norwegians and Germans have similar language, it might be possible both Killjoy and Deadlock have become good friends. Additionally, the new Agent also jumped the gun when she sensed the presence of Gekko’s Wingman. This relates back to the situation when the radianite-affected bear bit her channeling the radianite into her veins. Maybe she can sense the presence of radianite around her.

Deadlock seems to be a self-reliant character who is serious with her work. Being a hunter like Sova, it might be possible both might have an alliance in the lore in further future. However, all of it can be confirmed after the release of the Episode 7 Act 1 update.
