Backstage report on Billie Kay’s release from WWE yesterday. The former IIconics member was let go off along with several others by the promotion.
WWE announced 10 departures from the promotion yesterday. Samoa Joe, Billie Kay, Peyton Royce, Mickie James, Chelsea Green, Tucker, Kalisto, Mojo Rawley, Wesley Blake and Bo Dallas, were among those released. Some of the names on the list came as a shocker for various reasons.
Billie Kay was among the surprise releases. The former Women’s Tag Team Champion was quikly becoming a fan favourite due to her antics and hilarious backstage segments. She had recently appeared on Wrestlemania last weekend was regularly featured on television.

According to Fightful Select, Billie Kay was very well liked in the locker room. However, WWE producer Kevin Dunn failed to see in her what the fans and her colleagues saw. According to the report, Dunn didn’t get her and believed that she had a ceiling in the promotion.
It is not known whether if this contributed to her release from the promotion though.
Upon her release, Billie Kay released an emotional statement, thanking the WWE for allowing her to fulfill her dreams. She also thanked her family and the fans for supporting her over the years. She also had a word for her longtime friend, Peyton Royce, deeming their exit together as fitting before adding that she was proud of her and would always be there for her.

Peyton Royce also came out with her own statement admitting that she was still recovering from the news of her release. She also thanked the WWE for allowing her to pursue her dreams and creating memories that she will cherish for the rest of her life.
Peyton Royce expressed her gratitude to the locker room and her fans before thanking her husband, former WWE star and now AEW’s Shawn Spears, for always believing in her. She signed off with a hopeful note for the future.
