Chris Jericho responds to Vince McMahon not viewing AEW as competition. The Tony Khan led promotion has been the closest rival to WWE since WCW.
The birth of AEW has split fans. Many have remained loyal to the WWE while several others have moved on to the Tony Khan led promotion. There is a genuine belief that in the coming years, AEW may actually compete toe to toe with Vince McMahon’s company.

The WWE president however, does not feel the same. During the recent WWE second-quarter financial call, Vince claimed that he didn’ think AEW was competition. At least not in the way WCW was.
“That was a different situation. AEW is where they are. I don’t really know what their plans are, all I know is what our plans are. I don’t consider them competition in the way that I would consider WCW back in the day, not anywhere near close to that.”

Kenny McIntosh from Inside the Ropes asked Chris Jericho what his opinion on Vince McMahon’s comments. In repsonse, the first ever AEW World Champion said that he wasn’t bothered by them.
“Well, what else is he going to say? You know, and to respond to that, we don’t see WWE as competition. And he was smart to say that. We’re not worried about what WWE is and we haven’t been since day one. We weren’t worried about what NXT did. The whole time with the NXT vs. AEW war, which ended in a total abysmal failure for NXT, we never once had a TV screen watching what they were doing when we were doing it.”
“Speaking on the Wednesday Night Wars, we could not control the fact that NXT was put up against us. We couldn’t control the fact if, you know, there’s a Beatles reunion put up against us, you know, whatever. We can’t control that. All we can control is our own show on the quality of what we’re doing.”
