Former WWE Champion asked Vince McMahon permission to flip the bird on TV

Former WWE Champion asked Vince McMahon permission to flip the bird on national TV. The segment aired back in 2019 during his run as champion.

The WWE is a PG company. Unlike the Attitude Era, the promotion is now very careful about what they show on television now. There are moments however, when they let air some controversial segments such as when Kofi Kingston flipped the bird on Samoa Joe during their feud in 2019.

Big E said:

“[Kofi], throwing up the bird, when you had the WWE Title with Samoa Joe. For some reason, you flipping him the bird, I feel like you’re the most unlikely person to flip anyone the bird in WWE history.”

Kofi Kingston replied:

“The whole situation was so funny because we were talking about how we wanted to present this idea and we needed a punchline. I was like, ‘It’s got to be the middle finger.’ Maybe not the middle finger, but something along those lines.

“The more we talked about it, it was like, ‘Nah, it’s gotta be the middle finger.’ We went in and asked He Who Shall Not Be Named [Vince McMahon] and he cleared it. ‘Yeah, that’ll be fine, we’ll just shoot around it. ‘What? Okay. Good luck.’”

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
