During the 15th match of the ongoing Global T20 League 2019 between Toronto Nationals and Montreal Tigers at Brampton, Toronto Nationals captain Yuvraj Singh succumbed to a back injury while attempting to play a slog sweep off Montreal Tigers leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed.
It all happened in the eighth over when Yuvraj came in to bat at No. 5. Playing only his second delivery, Yuvraj’s attempt to hit the ball on the leg-side was futile as he didn’t even make contact with the ball. On the contrary, the veteran batsman lost control of his bat and was seen in significant pain.
After trying to get up initially, Yuvraj again had to lie down because of the pain. Despite receiving medical attention, the recently retired Indian cricketer couldn’t manage to continue batting as he was seen leaving the ground.
Chasing a modest 137-run target, National sealed the chase in the 18th over on the back of opening batsman Chirag Suri scoring 52 (37) with the help of seven fours and a six.
While Yuvraj missed the last league match due to the same injury, he turned up for the eliminator against Winnipeg Hawks. Coming in to bat at No. 4 in the 15th over, Yuvraj once again retired hurt after scoring 8* (7). Despite wicket-keeper batsman Heinrich Klaasen’s 106* (49) with the help of 11 fours and five sixes powering Nationals to 238/5, they ended up losing the match to JP Duminy’s 85* (41) with the help of eight fours and five sixes.

As far as the tournament is concerned, Brampton Wolves will take on Winnipeg Wolves in the second qualifier tonight. If a recent set of reports regarding Yuvraj are to be believed, he is being approached to play in the Abu Dhabi T10 League 2019.
