Yuvraj Singh speaks against Virat Kohli's theory of batting deep in T20Is

Yuvraj Singh speaks against Virat Kohli: The recently retired Indian all-rounder spoke in contrast to the current Indian captain.

The Indian selectors dropping the successful wristspin-duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav from the T20I squad has invited contrasting opinions from both former cricketers and fans.

Given the manner in which both Chahal and Yadav had deceived the opposition batsmen across conditions and situations, finding them out of the squad is hard to digest.

It was India captain Virat Kohli who had laid emphasis on “increasing batting depth” as the main reason behind including all-rounders such as Krunal Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar.

Much like former captain Sourav Ganguly, former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is also at odds with the current team management’s decision of not playing Chahal and Yadav in the T20I squad. Speaking in an interview with Aaj Tak, Yuvraj opened up on the importance of playing specialist bowlers over bowling all-rounders.

“It is very stupid to think that we have to bat deep. In the last three to four years during every IPL auction, most of the money is spent on the bowlers. The think tank needs to understand that you have to have main bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav.

“You need really good bowlers to win the T20 World Cup. Yes, we have a great batting side. We have Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma. Middle-order you know, Shreyas Iyer has done very well in the ODIs. So batting is not an issue but you need bowlers to win the World Cup,” Yuvraj was quoted as saying.

After the three-match Test series against South Africa, India will play a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh at home in November.
