3 Players which CSK should buy

3 Players which CSK should buy: Sportsrush presents before you three names which Chennai Super Kings should buy in IPL Auction.

Having released a mere three players ahead of the IPL auction, it became clear that Chennai Super Kings didn’t want to disturb a team combination which won them their third IPL title under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni earlier this year.

With 23 cricketers with them, one hardly expects them to go bonkers during the auction which is reportedly to be held in the third week of December in Jaipur. This, despite the average age of their players being on the wrong end of 30s.

Out of the three players which they have released are the fast bowling duo of Mark Wood and Kanishk Seth and middle-order batsman Kshitiz Sharma. During the auction, there is an anticipation of them going for a similar genre of players with a change here or there.

3 Players which CSK should buy in IPL 2019 Auction

  1. Indian opening batsman – There is no hiding to the fact that Chennai Super Kings’ move of opening the batting with Ambati Rayudu in the last season of the IPL turned out to be a masterstroke. Despite Rayudu’s heroics with the bat up the order and Murali Vijay in the squad, the franchise would be considering in investing in an Indian opening batsman.

Among the other opening batsman in the team are former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson and current South African captain Faf du Plessis.

Possible options – Gautam Gambhir Manan Vohra, Anmolpreet Singh, Virat Singh.

While the addition of Gambhir will add immense experience to the already wise Chennai Super Kings squad, it might just become a hindrance for them on the field. As strange as it sounds, they might just opt for a better fielder in young Indian openers like Vohra, Anmolpreet Singh or Virat Singh.

While Vohra is a known name in the IPL, his Punjab-teammate in Anmolpreet Singh remained unsold during the last season of the IPL. Having scored runs in the domestic circuit in the recent year, he might just get the reward in the form of a maiden IPL call-up this year. In Jharkhand’s Virat Singh, CSK will get a 20-year old hard-hitting southpaw, someone who can be looked upon as a future prospect as well.

2. Indian spinner – With their overseas quota already completed, CSK might go in for a rookie Indian spinner despite having players of similar genre in the team. Not considering the all-rounders, Super Kings’ only have a couple of spinners in Harbhajan Singh and Karn Sharma.

In a bid to provide more depth to their spin-bowling division, CSK might look to someone who might come in handy as a cover for these two tried and tested names.

Possible options – Murugan Ashwin, Bipul Sharma, Ankit Sharma.

Talking of Indian spin bowlers, CSK can opt for the likes of Murugan Ashwin, Bipul Sharma and Ankit Sharma. While Murugan Ashwin will tick the box of their mystery spinner, the other two Sharmas, both left-arm spinners, have it in them to provide able support/cover for the likes of fellow left-arm spinners such Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner.

3. Indian fast bowler – While CSK already have four of them in Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, KM Asif and Monu Kumar, another experienced Indian pacer will undoubtedly aid them in balancing the act in their bowling division.

Possible options – Jaydev Unadkat, Varun Aaron, Rajneesh Gurbani.

Much like Rahman, Unadkat’s modus operandi is highly likely to suit the Chepauk wicket. One out of him or Aaron might just be the experienced Indian pacer who could come in handy for CSK. Vidarbha’s Gurbani, who has been among the wickets in the Indian domestic circuit lately, can also be a smart pick.
