Records which Kohli broke during his 38th ODI century

Records which Kohli broke during his 38th ODI century: The Indian captain smashed several records against Windies.

During the third ODI of the ongoing Windies’ tour of India at Pune, India captain Virat Kohli scored his 38th ODI century, a knock which helped him to break several records at the highest level.

Given his run-spree in the recent times, irrespective of the format, Kohli has been breaking milestones at will this year.

Having won the toss, Kohli had earlier elected to field first. Chasing a 284-run target, Kohli came in to bat at No. 3 in the second over. Remaining the last hope for India tonight, chances of India winning the match without Kohli remained minimal. Kohli ended up scoring 107 (119) with the help of 10 fours and a six.

Below are the records which Kohli broke today:

1. Most runs in ODIs – With 10,183 runs in 214 matches at an average of 59.90 and a strike rate of 92.82, Kohli has surpassed former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni to become the fourth-highest run-scorer for India in ODIs and 12th overall.

2. First Indian batsman to score three consecutive ODI centuries – Having scored three centuries in three matches, Kohli has become the first ever Indian batsman to score three consecutive ODI centuries. Having scored 113 against New Zealand at Kanpur last year, it was also Kohli’s fourth consecutive century on home soil.

3. First batsman to score centuries in four successive innings against an opponent – Having scored 111* against Windies at Kingston in 2017, Kohli has now scored four consecutive centuries against Windies, becoming the first batsman ever to do so.

4. First Indian batsman to score three centuries in a tournament twice – When Kohli had scored three ODI centuries on the tour of South Africa earlier this year, he had joined the likes of Indian legends in Sourav Ganguly (ICC Cricket World Cup 2003) and VVS Laxman (VB Series 2003-04) in terms of scoring the most centuries in a tournament.

Having done the same in this series, Kohli has become the first Indian batsman to score three consecutive centuries in a tournament twice.

5. Fastest to 6,000 ODI runs in a continent – During the course of his century, Kohli also crossed 6,000 ODI runs in Asia. Having completed it in 117 innings, he has become the fastest batsmen ever to do so. Sachin Tendulkar held the record earlier as he had completed the same number of runs in 142 innings.
