Former BCCI secretary questions Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey’s non-selection for 2019 Cricket World Cup
BCCI secretary questions Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey’s: Former BCCI secretary has severely criticized India’s team selection for World Cup.
India getting eliminated from the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 has come down as a hard pill to swallow for numerous Indian fans and former cricketers. Touted as the favourites, India were at least expected to make it to the finals of the tournament.
While India possibly committed a blunder by sending Dinesh Karthik ahead of Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the semi-final against New Zealand, coach Ravi Shastri recently opined regarding missing a “solid batsman” especially in the absence of opener Shikhar Dhawan.
Time for India to move on from certain players now keeping 2023 in mind. Kedar Jadhav (34), Dinesh Karthik (35) have had their run. MS Dhoni’s an unparalleled legend. Time to celebrate him, and move on. Can’t be overly dependant on Rohit (32) & Shikhar (33) either. 1/2

BCCI secretary questions Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey’s non-selection
In an interview with Indian Express, former BCCI secretary and selector Sanjay Jagdale spoke against the selectors for experimenting with Dinesh Karthik and Ambati Rayudu in the middle-order. Jagdale further expressed his unhappiness for players being selected on the back of IPL performances.
“They [selectors] kept on experimenting with Vijay Shankar, Ambati Rayudu, Dinesh Karthik… Karthik has been playing since 2003, when I was a selector. Rayudu also. You can’t pick teams on the basis of the IPL performance. You need players who have performed well outside the sub-continent,” Jagdale was quoted as saying.
Wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant, who was called-up as Dhawan’s replacement, also found support from Jagdale. While the veteran administrator felt sorry for Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey’s non-selection, he slammed Rayudu and Karthik for receiving “enough chances”.
“I was really shocked when Pant wasn’t picked. I also feel sorry for somebody like Manish Pandey. Shreyas Iyer, too, was unfortunate. I don’t feel sorry for Rayudu. Rayudu, Karthik – they had enough chances.
“Manish Pandey got a hundred in Australia. After that he didn’t get many chances. I think the preparation part could have been much better. They were backing the wrong players,” Jagdale added.
