Martin Guptill run-out in super over: Watch New Zealand batsman’s dismissal as England win 2019 Cricket World Cup final
Martin Guptill run-out in super over: The Kiwi opening batsman’s dismissal in the super over came as the winning moment for England.
During the final match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between New Zealand and England at Lord’s, it was New Zealand opening batsman Martin Guptill’s run-out in the super over which crowned England as the champions of the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
It all happened on the last ball of match when New Zealand required to win a couple of runs to win the match. England fast bowler Jofra Archer’s yorker didn’t allow Guptill to open his hands. It was Guptill who got run-out in his attempt of running back for the second run.
After both the match and the super over ended in a tie, England were declared the winners by virtue of them scoring more boundaries in the match. It is worth mentioning that it was the first time when super over was introduced into the World Cup. With it being utilized in such a manner, it speaks highly of the successful move.
Earlier in the match, England all-rounder Ben Stokes was outstanding as he scored an unbeaten 84* (98) with the help of five fours and a couple of fours. With bowling figures of 7-0-43-3, New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham was the highest wicket-taker for his team.
After New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and chose to bat, New Zealand scored 241/8 in their allotted quota of 50 overs. In what was his ninth ODI half-century, New Zealand opening batsman Henry Nicholls top-scored for the Kiwis as he scored 55 (77) with the help of four fours. With bowling figures of 9-0-37-3, Woakes was the pick of English bowlers.
