Patrice Evra: Manchester United legend retires from professional football, reveals his future plan, one that he has set his sights on since 2013.

Manchester United Legend Patrice Evra has called it quits from professional football. The Frenchman, who joined Manchester United in January 2006, has called time on his 20+ year long career and will now pursue other ambitions.

In an interview with the Gazzetta dello Sport, he said: “My playing career is officially over. I started training for the UEFA B Coaching License in 2013, now I want to finish it and then go on to get the UEFA A license.

“In a year and a half, if everything goes well, I’ll be ready to lead a team.”

Patrice Evra had a glittering career, of which he gave eight years to Manchester United. The left back won five Premier League titles and one Champions League crown at Old Trafford.

He left the club in 2014 and headed to Italy where he plied his trade for Juventus. He won three Serie A trophies at Turin before heading back to France where he joined Marseille.

Unfortunately, his stay there wasn’t as fruitful as the two clubs before. Evra was let go by the club after an altercation with a fan. He then went on to join English Premier League side West Ham, for whom he made only 5 appearances.

On the national front. Evra has represented France 81 times. Evra has participated in five major international tournaments for France: the 2008, 2012 and 2016 editions of the UEFA European Championship, winning a runners-up medal at Euro 2016; and both the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups.

Evra has as served as captain for both Manchester United and France. During his time at Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson praised him for his leadership and described him as one of the best left-backs in Europe.
